The first game sent a message that St Joseph's was a real contender with a solid 38 point win over St Bede's.An epic start to the season. After starting down against a tough Parade side in Round 2, Mr Holt (filling in for Mr Clohesy) got us in line and making all the right moves in the final quarter, the team kicked 4 goals within 4 minutes with a vital goal by Jacko McLachlan stealing the win. Round 3 was our first home game against St Bernard's competing for the Reconciliation Cup. In front of a big crowd we prevailed leaving the team 3-0 and playing with plenty of confidence and run. Fresh off the bye the team was excited, with an undefeated season we continued the winning streak for the next two rounds leaving us 5-0 with powerful wins over De La Salle by 131 points and a 51 point win over Mazenod. Going into the final game we had already wrapped up a spot in the Grand Final. This provided the chance for several sore players to have a rest and for some others to have a crack at senior footy. Unfortunately Whitefriars were too good on the day - our first loss of the season and ultimately decided that we would be playing Whitefriars for the Grand Final. The Grand Final was held at Elsternwick Park in Melbourne. With Whitefriars in the first quarter stacking on 5 goals to our 0. We kicked into gear in the second half and gave it our all, but the early lead that Whitefriars set up was too much.We fought out the game and held our heads high but unfortunately it was all over as Whitefriars took the game out by 32 points. I would like to congratulate Nick Swain for taking out the Best and Fairest award and Vice-Captain James Hickey who-Was runner up. Other awards went to Max Augerinos, Casey Meehan, Damian McMahon and Jacko McLachlan who all had fantastic seasons. Congratulations to Max Augerinos, Harrison Kol, Nick Swain and Damian McMahon on being selected in the ACC Team of the Year. I'd like to thank our coaches Mr Clohesy, Mr Holt and Ian Durran. Thanks also to the team helpers Mick Hinds, Lenny Alford, Greg Vaughn, Mr Dawson and Mr Milverton. I would also like to thank the players who commit each week on top of playing weekend footy because they just love to play footy for their school. Finally to the extended team that support, run water, boundary and goal umpire each game - without you there is no game. Even though we didn't have Grand Final success, we played as a team for the season and had a great time. I wish all Year I 0 and I I boys success next year, hopefully they can go one better! Our tilt at the 2014 ACC premiership started with a road trip to Mazenod after a term of hard work putting together a game plan that would stand up against the competition. With Mr Holt and Mr Lynch putting the game plan together and the group brining the hard work we were ready for the season. After getting the win against Mazenod in the wet, we played our first home game. In wet and slippery conditions the boys got the win after being challenged by St Bede’s. Over the next two weeks we would play some of our best footy with a big win over St. Bernard’s at home and a great win at De la Salle, again in wet conditions. The following week would be a wake-up call for the group with Parade getting the jump on us and a big last quarter not being enough to get over the line. The loss to Parade would set up an elimination final against Whitefriars. Without our skipper Jack Blood, a win would secure a grand final birth and a home final on percentage. A loss would be the end of our season. After an inspirational speech from Mr Holt the group played some of its best footy against a quality opposition. We broke the game open playing our best footy for the year to run away with a five goal victory. The grand final would be played in perfect conditions at Elderslie Reserve against Parade. The group was challenged by Parade and responded, putting together some of our best footy for the year and taking out the premiership in front of a healthy and supportive home crowd. Capping off a great season with big grand final performances Jack Henry and Jono Arcoraci were joint Best and Fairest winners. Will Cann and Sam Simpson were Runner-Up Best and Fairest winners and Paddy Dowling took out the Coach’s Award. On behalf of the group I’d like to thank Mr Holt and Mr Lynch for coaching the group and getting us up each week, I’d also like to thank Lenny Alford, Mick Hinds and Lachy Porter for all of the time and effort they put into the program to make it a success once again.
